I have been working for many years on the Library at Boynton Hall, near Bridlington in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Primarily amassed in the eighteenth and early-nineteenth centuries, many of the books were dispersed in a series of sales from 1835 to 1950. I am interested in locating any books marked with the four bookplates illustrated here and would be delighted to hear from libraries or private owners who have early Strickland books, or from booksellers who have, or have had, Strickland books bearing these bookplates.
There are later family bookplates – for George Strickland (1760-1832) of Chesnut Grove, York, for Henry Eustatius Strickland (1777-1865), for Jarrard Edward Strickland (1782-1844), for Eustatius Strickland (1787-1840) and for Edward Rowland Strickland (c.1805-1852) – but I am primarily interested in tracing books owned by the Stricklands listed below.
